Definition

 

BA French Language and Culture is a program through which students develop their skills in French language and culture and over successful completion of the program they are awarded BA French Language and Literature.

 

Programs Major Goals:

 

Developing students skills over listening, reading, speaking and writing in French language

Making students familiar with French culture, and customs and those of the countries where French language is dominant in order to develop cultural ties with such countries

Disseminating and expanding Islam and teaching of Ahl-e Bayt through French language and culture in France and French-speaking countries

Training experts in the field of culture and France

Developing students skills concerning French literature and grammar

Developing students skills in translating texts from and into French to fulfill their own needs and the needs of others

 

 

Educational policies:

 

Having special attention towards Quranic sciences and Quranic teachings and the Ahl-e Bayt when developing curriculum and textbooks of the program

Using the latest methods applied in education, research and teaching

Conducting research along teaching courses units and running research-based coursers 

Employing skillful and knowledgeable lecturers who are well-aware of French culture and language and the great leader of Irans revolution and the works of religious scholars particularly those of Imam Khomeini

Encouraging seminary and clerical attitude and behavior

Having attention to common France-Iran cultural and language grounds when developing curriculum

Presenting course units In French language 

Awarding official and credible certificate and paving the way for students to advance to upper educational programs (postgraduate and PhD)

Preparing the way for students to use scholarship in France universities to study French language

Preparing the grounds for exchange of students ideas with French scholars 

Eliminating regional and national tensions and sensitivities

 

 

 

Programs duration and structure

 

Total credits including general course units are 144

Program takes 5 semesters (10 six months) which is conducted based on modules and semesters

Each theoretical credit is 16 hours and each practical one is 32 hours

 

Note:

Introductory course units are a total of 400 hours including listening, speaking, reading and writing and speed in speaking and developing proper language habits. Students are required to pass the mentioned courses before entering the program and during a six-month consecutive term. Students shall pass the examinations based on material presented during the six-month preparatory term. Students who have prior knowledge of French language can sit the exam and after successful passing of the exam they can enter the program.

 

Note: The credits passed during the preparatory terms are not calculated toward the total credits passed.

Importance and necessity:

 

Islam is a comprehensive religion whose goal is prosperity of human being and today the seminary schools are leading institutes for disseminating the message of Islam across the globe. They need to train disseminators, researchers and lecturers to carry out such responsibility. Accordingly, Al-Mustafa University, with 25 years experience, attempts to instruct international disseminators, researchers and lecturers. The university tries to admit more applicants each year and run programs relating to language and culture of different countries. The universitys management believes that the main condition for achieving its great goals is through familiarity of its students with language and culture and customs of nations. Therefore, Al-Mustafa University developed and run undergraduate programs of major world languages including French language. The university intends to make local and international students familiar with major world languages as recommended by the Irans leader so that the language and culture of Islamic Iran is transferred to the world.

 

 

 

Role and effectiveness:

 

Graduates of the program shall be capable of:

 

Speaking and comprehending French

Writing papers within their field in French

Knowing about culture and customs of France and other countries whose dominated culture is French and through such knowledge conduct dissemination and research

Getting employed as an expert in French-speaking countries in academic and governmental institutes

Conducting research studies in French-speaking countries

Translating French texts

Exchanging viewpoints with French scholars

Developing their studies in postgraduate programs within the field of language and culture or interdisciplinary programs, e.g. Linguistics, teaching major world languages, sociology and Humanities.

Notes:

General course units structure is based on the recommendations of Supreme Assembly of Cultural Revolution.

General course units are presented in French language so that students language skills are increased and they learn terms and expressions of French language

Foreign language (1&2) course units (2 theoretical and practical credits) are presented as general French (1&2) course units; the same way they are presented in state universities. These course units are presented after introductory French semester. Due to the importance of these course units the pass mark is 14. If students receive a mark below 14, their grade is not calculated in their average grades or they shall re-sit the exam.

Farsi course unit (3 credits) will be presented based on famous historical texts, e.g. Golestan of Sadi and its French version, Fersowsi and its French version, Mowlawi, Attar, Khayam and its French version and other Farsi masterpieces in Farsi and French and through a comparative study. The goal behind this type of presentation is to familiarize students with classic Farsi texts, concepts and literature and to help them increase their language knowledge.

Notes:

In oral translation 1&2 using stories and legends helps students learn about common culture of French speaking countries. Besides, such texts are more attractive for students and using them accelerate learning and makes students creative and dynamic.

Practical classes are based on theoretical classes in French. Such classes are held on individual or group basis supervised by a lecturer. Such texts will later be used as the main material for the speeches and research works. Translations are from French into Farsi and the lecturer decides selecting texts.

The course unit entitled, assessing French mass media products, is partly presented through the select short and long French films

The course unit entitled, Composing dictionary and comparative resource study is presented based on critiquing and assessing existing cultures and modern methods of composing dictionary which are common in Iran and France

The entire course units of the above table are preferably presented in French so that students skills and language concepts are developed through teaching terms and expressions in French language

The above course units are preferably taught in French, particularly practical course units that are presented in translation and team-based workshops based on the same subjects taught in theoretical classes.

The course unit entitled, Iran-France cultural ties is taught in French and Farsi language. In this course unit, the rich resources of French travel books are used and students learn about French language through reading such books and also learn methods of writing travel books and apply their knowledge in their future travels.
